Abstract

Varietal differences in the occurrence of hollow heart (HH) and internal brown spot (IBS) of potato (Solanum tuberosum L.) were investigated with three cultivars in 1993 summer cropping. And the effect of mulching materials on the HH and IBS was investigated in 1994 season. Among three cultivars, ´Atlantic´ showed the highest occurrence of HH and IBS. Among mulching materials, the HH occurrence was the highest in black PE film (18.8%) and the lowest in reflective film (10.2%), and the similar tendency was exhibited in IBS occurrence. The HH increased with the later harvesting date, but the IBS did not show a particular tendency.
